Courageous Advocacy

Inspiring us all to create a better world

Through our values of Friendship, Determination and Joy, we put our vision to love one another into action every day.

What Courageous Advocacy means

Courageous Advocacy is about speaking up for what is right and challenging injustice, especially for those whose voices may not be heard.

Our approach

At Eardisley CE Primary School, we encourage children to be courageous advocates for the common good—locally, nationally and globally. We recognise that everyone faces highs and lows in life, and we aim to support and encourage one another through them.

We believe that every person has value, potential and something unique to offer. We want our children to know that small, thoughtful actions can make a big difference, and that they have the power to help create a better world.

How we live this out

We teach children to think beyond themselves and beyond the immediate—to consider global issues, long‑term needs and the importance of acting with fairness, dignity and justice.

Our Christian values guide us as we explore big questions, challenge injustice and take part in activities that promote positive change. We aim to widen children’s horizons and help them recognise the impact they can have on others, both near and far.

In recent years, we have taken part in a range of projects that help, in small but meaningful ways, to create a better world:

  • Macmillan Cancer Support – raising money to support people living with cancer
  • Children in Need – helping to fund projects that support children and families across the UK
  • Comic Relief – contributing to programmes that tackle poverty and injustice at home and abroad

Pupils in Oak Class Are Government Advisers!

Under the guidance of Dr Roger Morgan OBE (former Children’s Rights Director for England), pupils in Years 5 and 6 take part in real government consultations. They discuss and debate wide‑ranging national issues, including fire safety rules for buildings, energy use in new houses, puppy smuggling, and how to care for our rivers. All topics are current, meaningful and rooted in strong values.

When Government Ministers or Parliamentary Committees ask for public views, the children of Eardisley respond—and their advice has even been included in the official record of Parliament.

This work grows from our commitment to values such as love, determination, service and responsibility. Pupils learn the language of values and the behaviour that reflects them. They develop strong critical‑thinking skills, reasoning clearly and offering thoughtful, practical suggestions that could improve lives.

Through this remarkable opportunity, our pupils become courageous advocates for change. They are growing into thoughtful, caring citizens who understand that their voices matter—locally, nationally and globally.
